TECH NEWS AUTHORITY ZDNET LAUNCHES GLOBAL APP

Sydney, 11 April, 2011: ZDNet, the global authority on IT news for technology professionals, has launched a new app that utilises the latest in geo-targeting technology, intelligently delivering to users relevant local and international braking IT news to iPhone and Android users, wherever they are in the world.

"The phenomenal growth of the iPhone and smartphone market over the past few years has fundamentally changed the way audiences consume media," says Brian Haverty, Editorial Director for ZDNet Australia and CBS Interactive. "As IT professionals view the web, exchange emails and tweet via mobile devices, they're now also demanding that same ease of access for local and global industry news and content. ZDNet's new app is the answer to that call globally."

The new app is ZDNet's first global collaboration and leverages the brand's international network of content developed out of editorial hubs in the Asia Pacific, Europe and US. The app also integrates global analytics from the site which enables tailored content and delivers in-depth insight into what users want, ultimately providing a superior and customised user experience.

In Australia, the geo-targeting means that IT professionals not only have immediate access to great local content such as the latest developments around the NBN, commentary on government developments and case studies from industry leaders; but also immediate access to relevant international content as determined by their needs and interests.

The app's features include:

  • Graphics optimised for the Retina Display of iPhone 4 and various Android devices with high-resolution displays, including tablets.
  • Tight integration to social media platforms, allowing users to Tweet and reTweet content and interact with the global ZDNet community.
  • Seamless transition of multimedia features (photo galleries, web video) from site to mobile enabling rich site content on the go.

The ZDNet app will, like the website, be supported by online advertising, as mobile marketing becomes an increasingly important tool for digital marketers. According to leading online industry resource, AIMIA's 2010 Mobile Study, $26 million was spent on mobile advertising alone last year.
