SYDNEY 15 May, 2009 - Leading business technology news and reviews site ZDNet Australia on Wednesday announced the winner of its third annual Emerging Innovation Award at CeBIT 2009 in Darling Harbour, Sydney. At a ceremony held on the show floor, the winner and two runners-up were announced, with a product called gStepOne taking top honours.
The judges (Ross Dawson, Brad Howarth, Mick Liubinskas, Iggy Pintado and Brian Haverty), selected for their knowledge and active engagement with Australia's IT and tech-development community, found gStepOne to be a refreshingly simple yet powerful tool for creating task wizards, wizards that take advantage of many powerful Google apps and that can be used from any browser.
"The ZDNet Australia Emerging Innovation Award is a great way for our team to recognise and support the new ventures and projects being developed for IT users from the desktop to the enterprise," said Brian Haverty, Editorial Director, ZDNet Australia. "In our third year we've seen a dramatic increase in the number of entries, with the quality of products and projects submitted showing that the Australian IT industry is continuing to push the boundaries in innovative IT development locally."
gStepOne is a free online software package designed to help users organise business processes by creating customised interactive wizards. Specified organisational procedures can also be linked to relevant knowledge in websites, documents, videos, pictures and maps, and Google Apps to provide background and reference materials.
Following the announcement, gStepOne developer and Wordware Managing Director Greg Collette spoke of his delight in winning this prestigious award:
"The ZDNet Australia Emerging Innovation Award is a landmark moment for our organisation and will mean a lot to our growth and recognition in the Australian IT industry moving forward. gStepOne is quite a new product having only launched in February this year and this win really demonstrates its value to a broad range of users from business and government to community organisations. I believe that this win marks a milestone to our growth in Australia".
Runner-up winners in the 2009 awards were Zaptz Ezyapp and Soprano 1300/1800 Inbound; two solutions that similarly showcased the innovation and clever thinking of Australian IT developers in telecommunications and systems management in today's connected organisation. Full details of submitted entries can be found online in entrant video case studies.
This year, over 50 products and services entered; a dramatic increase in the number of participants since last year's awards. A number of one-minute videos were also submitted with the 2009 entries.
