Expanding Rich Media Specifications

Rich media creative may only expand on click and to the following pre-determined dimensions. We do not accept expanding ads across any of our geo US sites (e.g. Download.com, CNET.com, Tech Republic). If unsure, please email AdOps for creative approval.

Expanding Properties

Type Requirements
Click to Expand The advertisement must collapse on roll off (when the cursor leaves the ad) and a "Click to Close" or "X" button must be clearly visible at all times.
Rollover to Expand The advertisement should contain either a hotspot no larger than 1/4th the size of the ad unit or implement a delay which requires the users mouse to be on the ad for one second before expanding. The advertisement must collapse on roll off (when the cursor leaves the ad).
File Size Up to 4 user initiated expand panels, 100k each.
Z-index Guideline Please set all expand ads to a z-index between 1000 and 4999.
Windowless Mode Guideline (WMode) The wmode parameter must be set to either "transparent" or "opaque" within both the <object> and <embed> tags to allow floating and expand Flash ads to layer over other Flash content and page components. Example: param name="wmode" value="transparent" or param name="wmode" value="opaque"

  • Expansion may occur through user initiation only. We will NOT accept any uninitiated expand ads.
  • All Flash creatives should attempt to consume no more than 25% of users CPU resources on an average system.
  • All creative must function uniformly on both Mac and PC platforms as well as multiple versions of Netscape, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Mozilla.
  • CBS Interactive accepts Flash MX 2004 (7) and Flash Professional (8) file formats.
Submission Deadlines:
GIF/JPG: 2 business days prior to launch date
Flash: 5 business days prior to launch date
Note: If the submitted creative does not conform to the specifications, it will not be placed online and may result in a delayed launch date.

Notes:
CBS Interactive Australia requires a GIF or JPG to be served as the "default" for non-Flash users.

CBS Interactive Australia accepts rich media and 3rd party creative from the following vendors: Atlas, Doubleclick, Eyeblaster, Eyewonder, Facilitiate, Pointroll. If you wish to submit a creative from a different vendor, please email ads@zdnet.com.au and allow 7 days for testing and approval. Please note all 3rd party ad serving costs must be met by the agency or client unless previously agreed.
